  • Califonia State Railroad Museum | Surviving IN Living

Back to Rails California State Railroad Museum Address : 111 I St, Sacramento, CA 95814 Approximate drive time from Bay Area: 1 hour 40 minutes Approximate distance: 95 miles Fee for Entrance: Yes - Train excursions are also a seperate fee If you have ever been to Old Sacramento then you have definitely seen this building. It is the building that you see right as you exit the parking garage, sitting massively above the smaller old town buildings with its sharp edges. The California State Railroad Museum is huge, and honestly when we had first ventured into it we did not expect to spend so much time inside the building. The exhibits seem endless, the stories are never ending, and honestly there is so much information you may need two trips. Not only that but the cabooses, cars and trains that are stored inside the museum are immaculate and you will notice details in them that will cause you to look deeper and deeper into the craftsmanship. I recommend purchasing the tickets for the excursions early and before you begin looking at the exhibits as the train rides do sell out fast. After the museum and the excursion I encourage you to visit Old Sacramento. This area is so full of history that our family had decided to stay in Sacramento so we could enjoy it all. Please see a link to the California State Railroad Museum above by clicking their logo. We are searching our photo archives. Please comeback soon

Here is a list of National parks that are located outside of the Bay Area. Most national parks are great locations for hiking, biking, camping, and sight seeing. I could make a whole website on all the amazing trails and adventures these California parks offer, and one day I might, but for now please utilize the links to the right to find that information. As well please click on the buttons within the map for directions to these parks. San Francisco Bay Area National Parks Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Here is a list of National parks that are located inside of the San Francisco Bay Area. Many of the parks inside the San Francisco Bay Area are locations filled with historical significance. I personally believe that these parks have to be visited more than once to really observe all they have to offer. You will notice that I have made clusters of these attractions with one link, and that is because there are so many different locations inside these parks that I could not possibly add links for all of them. Another to note is the Red Oak Victory. This amazing historical ship is part of the Rosie The Riveter World War II Homefront, but is located about 5 minutes away and can only be visited on Sundays. I really hope that you enjoy the amazing parks. Parks and Landmarks We love our national parks. We try to hit as many as possible. Not only that, but we venture to all kinds of open spaces and enjoyable wilds. We live in a society that is always connected, and these spaces help us disconnect. They really do keep us... natural. On top of national parks we also enjoy unique experiences and historical locations. Imagination shows us what is possible, and some of the places we go not only push our boundaries but can awe us. Listed here are a couple parks and locations we have visited as we continue our journeys. Please note that as we continue our adventures some of these may change or even close. All things change over time, and even though we strive to provide the must up to date information the best part of living is getting lost and finding your way. Diesel #64 Diesel #64 pulling into the Willits location. Diesel #64 Diesel #64 parked awaiting its haul. Before the train pulls out Our first historical train excursion. We were so young back then... Diesel #64 Diesel #64 pulling into the Willits location. 1/4 The Skunk Train was the rail ride that started our fascination with the wester rails. Over ten years ago we had planned the trip out, drove up and stayed the night in Fort Bragg, and proceeded to the train the following morning. The morning was misty, the trees majestic, and the ride magical. The skunk train departs its depot and takes you on a journey through the dense redwood forest to their junction in the trees. Here you can get off and have a brief picnic as they turn around or you can journey the trails for roughly two hours and wait for the next train. The ride back is equally as amazing. Though many things have changed over time (when we first took this train ten years ago in February we were able to sit by a log burning fireplace to keep us warm – global warming has changed this) this ride will always have a special place in our memories. As a bonus some rides allow dogs. Keep in mind prices have drastically changed over the years, but I am 100% sure this ride is still worth it. Please see a link to their website by clicking the The Skunk Train logo above.
