The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is located inside Virginia City, which is located Southeast of Reno. Virginia City alone is a beautiful city full of history, and riding out and into the city on this short line gives you an idea of how it was birthed and brought to be. The ride itself is great, taking you along many old historic buildings and bringing their colorful backgrounds to life through the stories told by the conductors, but if you can spend some time in Virginia city you will definitely get the Wild West feel that makes Nevada and pioneering synonymous. You can visit the city’s historic buildings, walk their saloons, and shop their stores. Multiple locations will give you information on the trains rides that run on the weekend (and some select weekdays), and you can take a short walk downhill to the station to purchase tickets and enjoy the ride.
